Your post sparked my interest in going out there again. As I recall, I used to take River Road all the way out past the turn-off = for Seneca Creek, turning left on Hughes Hollow Road to a very small = parking area. Does this sound about right to you, and, if not, would = you tell me how you approached the area? I was not disappointed, and I found seven woodpecker species present. The = Red-headed Woodpecker greeted me by feeding on the ground in the middle of = Sycamore Landing Road! There were also Yellow-rumps and RC Kinglets present. I = had hoped for some waterfowl on the Potomac, however, it is pretty much = full of ice flowing downstream, leaving no open water for birds. There was = also one Savannah Sparrow along the road. On the edge of one of the cornfields = there was a flock of 50 White-throated Sparrows and one Eastern Towhee. It = was very cold but worth the trip. Question: as I noticed lots of public = hunting signs, should I have been wearing blaze orange? That is, is it still = deer season?
