There they hold each seed with their feet and peck it until the husk is off. If you've ever banded you find out why the cardnals don't need to do this. When they think they have time, they pick up individual seeds, hold them with their toes and beat the daylights out of the shell until they can get at the goodies. 2. When they think they are rushed, they just come in and quickly gulp down seed after seed with shells on and then fly off. Does anyone know whether they later regurgitate the shelled seeds and take them apart, or do these just pass through their system and digest as is?
