We had great looks at 2 Short-eared Owls hunting in the short grasses surrounding the gravel and sand pits off of Abells Wharf Rd. The ponds are completely frozen over and the usual good #'s of puddle ducks were missing and neither did we get to see the several hundred Mallards and Black Ducks going to roost, however seeing the Owls more than made up for the lack of Ducks. I noticed that the many fields around the ponds have been mowed very recently which is most unusual, I hope that it has nothing to do with future development.
