Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 10:36:33 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Warren Strobel Subject: Schoolhouse Pond, 1/30/04 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A brief visit this snowy morning (8:30-9 a.m.) to Schoolhouse Pond in Upper Marlboro turned up the following: - Northern Shoveler (1), dabbling in the small area of open water. - American Coot (1), nearby (Both of the above are year-birds for me, for a very modest 2004 total of 33) - Mallard, approx. 20, resting on the ice - Ring-billed gull, approx. 100 as well as 200-300 other gulls, sp. - Canada Gesse, approx. 10, in open water and flying overhead - Domesticated geese, 10 (are these known as Graylag?) - Tufted Titmouse, 2 - Mockingbird, 1 - Cardinal, 1 - Starling, 8-10, overhead - Black-Capped Chickadee, 1 In Cape St. Claire, a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Downy Woodpecker have been visting our suet feeder. 4-5 Canvasback and a female Bufflehead were spotted on 1/28/2004 in a small patch of open water at the Marina on the Magothy River, the first time I have seen Canvasback there in two years of living here.
