Before 9 am we stopped along Oland Road and oogled the 200 and more Horned Larks, in spite of the biting cold windchill. Just as we wanted to throw in the towel for a while, a close group of larks contained at least 6 Lapland Longspurs. They were in the manured field on the north side of the road. Also along the north side were a couple of meadowlarks and a Mourning Dove. A hunting Peregrine Falcon put up all the larks and came really close to catching one. Later, we saw two or three Snow Buntings in a small group of larks along the west side of Cap Stine Road, not too far north of Hawker Road. A life bird for Lisa! A nemesis bird too. Elsewhere, a hidden Great Blue Heron took off from the side of the road close to the car, as we were driving along Greenfields Road near the river.
