Seen well at 11:30 and again at 4:15 by me and Pat Rose and her son Chris Ordiway. We met local birders Patty Craig and Ann Bishop who had also seen the Rough-legged Hawk about 2:30-3:00. In the morning at Point Lookout State Park we had the usual waterfowl off the causeway including several Canvasbacks but no Redheads. The surprise passerine were 2 Gray Catbirds at the north side of the gate entering the Boat Launch Facility. They were acting very much like a mated pair and were very protective of their territory as if on a nesting site. Raptors ruled today as we had raptors from Eastern Screech Owl, Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk , adult and juvenile Bald Eagle, American Kestrel, Black Vulture, Turkey Vulture, Northern Harrier, and of course the previously mentioned Rough-legged Hawk. Field birds were in abundance with good numbers of Horned Lark (at Rosecroft Rd and Rt 5 in St Mary's City) and American Pipits in 20 different locations. Sad to say but because of the bitter cold and wind I did not search the Horned Lark flocks for Lapland Longspurs but there is always tomorrow. Strangest bird of the day was an all white albino (pink legs and eyes) Rock Pigeon sitting on wires on Rt 5 just south of St Mary's College. We did have one unusual sighting of a Turkey Vulture perched on telephone wires (it appeared as if he was saying grace) eyeballing a carcass. I know there are people who keep a list of birds on wires has anyone seen this before?
