I started yesterday with 50 species = during the Frederick County winter count covering the northeast section = with Cathy Carroll. The thrill of seeing my first Mallard, Cardinal, = and Blue Jay was mixed with such exotics as Catbird, Purple Finch, and = Red-headed Woodpecker plus the great sparrow numbers in that area. = Bonnie Ott take note: the sparrow totals for our party were Tree 19, = Savannah 5, Fox 2, Song 61, Swamp 1, White-throated 228, White-crowned = 308, Junco 99, House 320, and 1 Towhee, plus 3 Lapland Longspurs in the = 345 Horned Larks. I believe Fox and Swamp were unique for the count. = Now if I can only find a gull life would be complete.
