I usually have observed large groups of Robins throughout the winter, but this year the only big gathering I noted was on January 6 after the big snow. I didn't count but there were certainly more than a hundred just on the sidewalks and any other open ground around the development, with most of the nearby trees full of them also. They're sort of like Waxwings - now you see 'em, now you don't, but they're around. I did wonder if they got clobbered like the Bluebirds with last year's excessive snow. Another explanation though might be that I just haven't been out on the local paths as much where I normally encounter them. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Pierce (DNRC)- fpierce@avialantic.com Mid-Atlantic Aviation on the Web - http://www.avialantic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- > -----Original Message----- > From: Maryland Birds & Birding [mailto:MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM]On > Behalf Of Janet Millenson > Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 10:35 AM > To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM > Subject: [MDOSPREY] Robin flock > > > A friend in Rockville just phoned me, surprised because she'd heard a > robin singing and had looked out to discover a flock of about 30 > robins in her small backyard ("Don't they migrate?").
