Based on a report from Dave Powell on a bird (or birds) he had seen back in January, and again on Wednesday evening, I went out there and sat from 5 PM until 5:45 PM when the light was waining. In that time I had an immature Northern Harrier soaring back and forth, which was finally joined by a Short-eared Owl at about 5:45. Views were long-distance and not really good, so I plan another trip this afternoon. Had a Red-tailed Hawk in the area also. These were seen from the Blue Mash trail parking lot at the county landfill entrance on Rt. 108. Short-eared was a county bird for me, but as they say,"better view desired." This is a difficult bird to find in the county these days, with reduced habitat everywhere.
