He is a true wordcrafter. On the subject of alternative names for birds, these are some of my favorites from a Bird Watcher's Digest.com article by the late Rick Blom: Beef bittern - Cattle egret Black-throated brown - House sparrow Carp-shinned hawk - Osprey Forest chippy - Worm-eating warbler (very similar call to Chipping sparrow) Yellowstart - female or young Redstart By they way, do any (or many) of our MD birders know what the "T." in Eirik A. T. Blom stands for? (I do, but I am not sure what the "A." stands for.) Other favorite bird names, possibly my own innovations: Lawn thrush - American robin U. S. thrush - Eastern bluebird Bill Ellis Eldersburg Carroll County ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
