As I headed to my truck, I heard several others calling from the trees. This is the second time in 2 weeks I've had grosbeaks. Two Tuesdays ago (10 February) I had 3 females and 1 male for a brief time. They never showed back up, even when JB Churchill stopped by a couple days later to try for them. I suspect that they've been hanging out, at least part of the winter, somewhere in the hemlock and spruce stands scattered throughout the Bittinger-Glades area of the county, though I hadn't even heard a flyover this winter prior to their appearance in my yard.
