The east side habit (about 50 acres of open fields divided by rush and tree lines) was destroyed in a construction venture about a year ago. On the west side (which is much the same size and habitat as the east side) there also is a small population of sparrows - song, field, white-crown (1 immature) and white-throat. Although I have heard the woodcocks calling on warm winter evenings there for three years, I have never seen them fly except when flushed. Nor have I seen them in the spring. Do woodcocks migrate to their mating sites from their wintering grounds? Do they tend not to do their mating rituals at their wintering grounds?
