Suddenly, the weight did not seem a factor at all. She bought the Nikon LX 8x42s and has been in birder heaven ever since. So, if your problem with the 32s was how they fit, or failed to fit, your hand, try the 42s. You may be surprised at how good the feel. Elliot Kirschbaum The 8x42 is the binocular which my optics-hound friend finally purchased. When he handed them to me, my first reaction was, "oh, these are HEAVY!" but when I put them up to my eyes, the view, the silky smooth focusing, and the perfect clarity were just too good. And they are very well balanced, so the weight doesn't seem a problem while birding, but they do weigh a whopping 2 pounds, something I just couldn't bear around my neck all day. I know that with a binocular harness system the weight can be more manageable, but I don't like those things either. But, when Nikon introduced the new 8x32, and I read the specs, I thought, these are for me. They do take a bit of getting used to, though, and I guess they're not for everyone. Thanks to all for your comments on this subject. This sort of discussion is obviously helpful to lots of folks out there.
