This time we cleaned up, with great looks at both the Orange-crowned and Nashville Warblers, and a lovely Red-breasted Nuthatch. The warblers were both directly downhill from the parking lot at the Asian garden, the Nashville was feeding from a sap hole in a small ornamental maple and the Orange-crowned apparently wanted to (it sat above us, calling). This little maple, no more than 10' tall, is next to a small yellow-white flowering shrub that can be seen if you look down from the parking lot. The nuthatch was in a Cryptomeria near the gazebo, in loose company with chickadees. Other birds seen included two Hermit Thrushes, plus a large migratory (??) flock of Robins avidly feeding on holly berries near Hicky Hill, accompanied by some Cedar Waxwings. A short visit to Kenilworth Aquatic Garden yielded Hooded Mergs, Black Duck, Gadwall, displaying Red-shouldered Hawks, and a Winter Wren. All in all, a nice day out at the cusp of winter/spring...
