    Ruth and I just returned from an over night trip on the Eastern = Shore.  We are not intensive birders but did tally 60 species.  We froze = out at Indian River Inlet and Ocean City Jetty.  When the temperature is = in the 30's and the wind is whipping sand in your face and your eyes = water from the wind and sand, we felt it was time to get back in the = car.  Here are our highlights:
  a.. Route 9 above Bombay Hook:  Red Tailed Hawk feeding very close = along side road=20
  b.. Bombay Hook:  Common Mergansers
  c.. Broadkill Beach Road:  North pond full of Snow Geese
  d.. Silver Lake:  Canvasback and Ruddy Ducks and Red-breasted = Mergansers
  e.. Indian River Inlet:  Great Cormorants
  f.. 4th Street OC:  75 - 100 Brant feeding on the grass in enclosure
  g.. OC Jetty:  Razorbills
  h.. West Ocean City Pond:  Hooded Mergansers and Canvasbacks
  i.. Race Track Ponds:  Ringed-necked Ducks
  j.. Blackwater NWR:  Brown-headed Nuthatches and Red-headed = Woodpecker.
    We try to bird the Eastern Shore in the fall (October), winter = (December), late winter (February), and spring (May).  Is it just us or = does there seem to be a dearth of numbers of birds this year?
