At its highest, it has had as many as 23 pairs of Great Blue Herons nesting in it. It has also at times had a pair or two of Great Egrets and a number of pairs of Black-crowned Night-Herons. A few years back it had some problems with disturbance by Canada Geese that nested in a few of the old heron nests. Since then numbers have been less than 10 pairs each year (8 pairs in 2003). Its good to hear that there are Great Blue Herons back again. Watch for other species nesting later in the season.
