At least two EASTERN PHOEBES were calling in the National Arboretum in NE DC this morning near the pond at Meadow Road. I also found a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH in the stand of hemlocks in the dogwood collection and a FOX SPARROW next to Crabtree Road (near the golf course).

Among the many crows, there were a few American Crows that alternated their vocalizations between the usual "caw" and something resembling a croak or rattle. Is this normal behavior?
