The Tidal Basin had 20+ RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 20+ COMMON MERGANSER, a single drake COMMON GOLDENEYE, and a pair of LESSER SCAUP. Also quite a few D-C CORMORANT. But no sign of any grebes in the vicinity. There were 2 OSPREY on the nest on the south side of the 14th St. railroad bridge. Just upstream of Chain Bridge, on the DC side of the river in shallow ponds were 3 female HOODED MERGANSER. Tourists are also appearing in impressive numbers! Mike B. D. H.
