Paul O'Brien recorded a few minutes of Black Rail calling in Montgomery County on May 11, 1994. However, the call is very difficult to hear due to background noise. Paul has noted that by manipulating the equalizer settings on a cassette player the vocalization of this bird can be recognized, albeit with some difficulty. We were wondering if anyone out there on MD Osprey has any experience converting audio cassettes to digital file formats and then with manipulating the waveform to try and better pull the intelligence out from the noise. Perhaps a printout of a sonogram might make sense, too? If so, I can mail you the cassette tape so you can enhance it and convert it into a digital file format (which will make it easier for the committee members to review via their personal computers). Thanks. Please rely privately rather than to the listserver.
