We counted a group of six just outside the south jetty and another one (and possibly two) in the inlet proper, diving regularly and staying under for considerable periods of time. We ran into George Jett, who planned to photograph them. In the ocean off Assateague Island National Seashore we saw two NORTHERN GANNETS, sitting on the ocean quite close in. Along the same stretch of beach, we saw two WILLETS flying north, the first for us around here this year. The pond by the clubhouse at the Eagle's Nest Golf Course had 16 AMERICAN WIGEON and 20 GADWALL. In with them was a single hen RING-NECKED DUCK. Absent was any Eurasian Wigeon, reported earlier. The folks at the pro shop said they thought the Eurasian Wigeons had left some time at the ends of last week. BTW everyone there was very proud of the beautiful framed pictures of the E. Wigeons presented to them by Arlene Ripley, who photographed the birds in February. Good work for the birding community, Arlene! Mike and Joy Bowen Bethesda MD D. H.
