From our spot, we saw four birds in the air; one briefly ascending and dropping to the ground in what may have been a courtship flight. Or maybe not. Speaking as a female - - I wasn't that much impressed! We also heard peenting, and a few twittering calls. This was around 6:30 p.m. - in a pretty narrow window of time. There is construction going on near the woodcock spot. Usual thing; saddening. Would like to publicly thank Mary O'Neill for letting Paul and I know about some Red-shouldered Hawk nest-building activity in our atlas block I share with Paul. You spend hours searching through the woods; and get your tick without even leaving your office!
