Date: Sat, 13 Mar 2004 12:19:42 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Tom Marko Subject: Blue Mash Nature Trail Blue Mash Nature Trail, Montgomery County, 13 Mar 04, 0700-0900 The ponds along the trail continue to hold a nice assortment of waterfowl to include Canda Goose, Mallard, Green-winged Teal, Bufflehead, Ringed-neck Duck and Hooded Merganser. Bonus birds this morning were 9 Tundra Swan on the pond located inside the fenceline (on the left side of the Zion Road access to the former landfill). Other birds of note were an up-close and perched-low Red-shouldered Hawk, 5 Wilson's Snipe, 2 Pileated Woodpecker, a single American Tree Sparrow and many Fox Sparrow. "Signs of Spring" birds included singing titmice, blackbirds (Red-winged), cowbirds, cardinals, towhees, sparrows (Song) and finches (House).
