It was flying not very high over my 11 story office building and I happened to look away from my computer at the exact moment. I watched it head northwest then west, disappearing behind a nearby building, noting its brown body and pure white tail. After sunset on March 13 (Saturday), Lisa and I heard two American Woodcocks on the east side of Hughes Road 1/2 mile north of River Road (near Poolesville). Beep! In DC on March 14 (Sunday): The Nashville Warbler continues in the Asian collection of the National Arboretum. The Red-headed Woodpecker continues along the River Trail at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Other birds I saw there were 5 Wilson's Snipe, 3 Bald Eagles (two adults, one immature), a pair of Wood Ducks, and three beautiful Blue-winged Teal. An Eastern Meadowlark flew up from a no mow area at Kenilworth Park. Also at the park were two Eastern Phoebes.
