Another sign of spring: One male Goldfinch has developed a gold back and is well on the way to showing fully gold head with the black cap. Several Tree Swallows showed up over the wetland at Pickering Creek yesterday. Bluebirds were singing on several of the nest boxes. An immature Bald Eagle came over the ponds, and that certainly got all of the ducks into the air. Fourteen Pintails, around 60 Green-winged Teal, and several Mallards took flight, and one Bufflehead. The Eagle took interest in the Bufflehead, but the little feller escaped. Back in the pond behind the barns there were 14 Wood Ducks. A Snipe flushed up from beside the stream that feeds the back pond.
