Monarda will do just fine in the Baltimore area. Two books I like are: Sherry Mitchell's "Creating Sanctuary; A New Approach to Gardening in the Washington Metropolitan Area" and the Sunset "Attracting Birds". You do have to do further research on some book recommendations because some authors are not too careful about alien invasive plants. The Maryland Native Plant Society ( www.mdflora.org ) has information on invasives.
