I have read that the hummingbirds seem to flock to s. guaranticas, = especially a cultivar called "Black and Blue."  Behnke's, I know, but also = other large nurseries such as Merrrifield will be carrying this plant =
later in the season.   (I seem to remember that they carried it last =

Like with most blooming plants, you need good sun to get flowers from this = plant.  Fortunately, not much water.  However, s. guarantica is only = marginally hardy around here.  It may not come back after a bad winter. = But, I have read that the "Black and Blue" form tubers, like dahlias, that = you can dig up in the early winter and replant in the next spring.

deBaggios's herbs in chantilly lists lots of ornamental salvias, including s. guaranitica "Argentine skies."  don't know if this is as attractive to hummers as the darker-blue variety in the Smithsonian gardens.
