There was a fender bender on the bridge on the Solomons side = and traffic was being stopped periodically allowing flow in one direction = at a time. The wind was horrific and my car, as well as others that I = could see near me, were rocking back and forth. Taking advantage of the altitude and the stopped traffic, I scanned the = river toward Pax River NAS. There were several Northern Gannets coursing = back and forth oblivious to the wind. I watched as they would approach the = bridge then turn back toward the mouth of the river. Someone said = something a while ago about bridges being a physical barrier for gannets = and they sure weren't going under it even though there is ample clearance. = Guess I'll never see a gannet for my park list at Patterson unless they = get swept upriver by a hurricane! Not much else of note other than a steady stream of Common Loons, maybe 6 = or 7, heading upriver. Not sure if they're heading north or just moving = around to feed.
