They were in the cove opposite the boat ramp. I could discern no white on the forehead, so believe these to be less the mature males. The white on the back of the neck is obvious. Per Jo Solem's bird-finding guide to HowCo, as of the publication in 1995, there were 4 records for Surf Scoter in HowCo. Also present were 3 Pied-billed Grebes, two near the concession, one at the west end. 7 Ring-necks, all in the west end 2 N. Pintails, more or less present all the time any more, west end. Blue-winged Teal, male, between the last two items west end, north side, somewhat elusive, found by Jo Solem about noon today. 2 Coots.
