Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 11:21:40 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Gail Mackiernan Subject: Brown pelican in DC update Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Hi all -- We left the Brown Pelican -- a nice adult in spring plumage -- at the Tidal Basin at about 10:15 a.m. -- we first saw it at about 8:45, in front of the boat dock, but it flew around a bit, eventually landing on the side of the Basin nearest the FDR Memorial. After admiring it for a while -- with Joy and Mike Bowen, who took several photos -- the four of us did a drive-around of Hains Point. Very windy! The WW Scoters of yesterday were not seen, we did see the two Ospreys and one Peregrine at the RR bridge. Barry and I then went back to the Tidal Basin and checked to make sure the Pelican was still there. A stop at Georgetown Reservoir (2 RN Grebes, Horned and Pied-bill Grebes were best birds) we came home.
