Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 17:35:29 -0500 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Marty Cribb Organization: tqci.net Subject: Piping Plover Calvert County Comments: To: Southern Maryland Birding MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello Everyone, While on a family outing with Pat Rose and Chris Ordiway and 2 members of the Maryland Conservation Corps Fiona and Shelly (sorry I don't have their last names) to hunt for fossils at Calvert Cliffs State Park and Flag Ponds Nature Center, we were fortunate to hear a calling American Bittern at CCSP and see, photograph and enjoy a single Piping Plover at FPNC. The bird was first observed at the "fossil hunters beach area" actively feeding along the beach at high tide at about 3:00PM. Pat and Chris were able to take about 100 digital pictures and a few 35mm pictures were taken also. The yellow book shows that this is a first Calvert County record, will someone please let me know if this is incorrect. The Piping Plover was quite vocal and didn't seem concerned by our presence. If anyone wants a picture for documentation please contact me off-list.
