I would like to also tap that thinking - but for China. My wife and I will be visiting China (from Beijing to Xian to Shanghai, including some time on the Yangtze River) this fall. Though the trip is certainly not emphasizing the birds, I would like to be in position of knowing at least some of the birds that we may see along the way. What homework books should I be getting? Field Guide to Birds of China by John MacKinnon shows up on the internet. Is that the right one to get first (even though it sounds huge)? And what are some other alternatives? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
