The bird was sitting on a wire right above the footbridge that crosses the canal near the lock house. Maybe a scout, I didn't see or hear any others nearby. This species nests in holes in the wall along Canal Rd., or so I believe. This is the earliest date that I have had this swallow in DC. The previous early date was March 25 - last year.
