Around 1 pm, the river was very calm and nearly all of the gulls were resting on the water. I took this opportunity to approximate the Bonaparte's Gulls present. I estimated 850 seen from Lapidum Landing with less than 50 between there and Conowingo Dam. I saw 2 adult winter Little Gulls flying around while I was counting. After an uneventful tour of the northern parts of the river, I decided to check the flock from Port Deposit. I found a large group of Bonies very close to shore just north of town and decided to wait for a Little Gull photo-op. Well, the Little Gull flew by too soon, before I had my camera ready and then spent the rest of the time too far away for a photo. However this bird seemed to have a fair amount of black molted in on the head, so I suspect this was a different individual than the one I had earlier. Also seen from Lapidum were 50 Red-breasted Mergansers (a first for me this far up river), 2 Hooded Mergansers, and 15 Horned Grebes in various plumages. Port Deposit had 3 Pied-billed Grebes and 7 Coots in the docks.
