I heard a Yellow-throated Warbler singing in Nanjemoy yesterday(Thursday March 25) but could not confirm it until I listened to my More Birding By Ear cd on the way to work this morning. I heard it again today and was able pisch it down from the top of a tall pine tree to about 12 feet away. The bird was singing it's heart out and was hawking for insects when it came down to check out the pisching. Toads are calling like crazy all day today where only a few were calling yesterday. When the fifth grade students asked why the toads were jumping at each other I told them they were playing "Leap Toad"! Yesterday we observed a Garter Snake, Morning Cloak and a little lavender colored butterfly. My butterfly guides are all boxed up so I could not key out the little lavender job. If anyone can give me the name of this butterfly I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
