I have to agree with Glen. About 2 weeks ago, I heard a perfect Eastern Pewee call coming twice from about 50 feet away in the woods. Had it been June, I wouldn't have hesitated to put it down as that species. It was mid-March however, and I looked around for Starlings. I finally saw 3 or 4 of them flying away from the treetops. Years ago, when I was a novice birder, the Bobwhite call was heard during a bird walk. I got very excited about it, but was informed by an old-timer, that undoubtedly it was a Startling, since Bobwhites were not found in that location. I've also had the pleasant experience of eliciting a "wolf whistle," from a Starlling, or so it seemed!
