I don't quite get the hang of this thing yet, and I'm not real sure if my last message got through to anyone, but I sure am getting lots of mail to read! Anyway, I'm glad to see that the Osprey's Nest has risen from the ashes like the legendary phoenix, and that we now have an internet birding chat group for local Maryland birders. So what good birds have you seen lately? Last Saturday I did a quick tour of a few local ponds and found a Greater Yellowlegs at the Laytonsville landfill pond, as well as 4 Ruddy Ducks on the Zion Pond. And there was a small form Canada Goose in with a flock of about 300-400 others on the Zion pond too. On Sunday I birded here in Ashton along the powerlines and had a fly-by MERLIN, as well as Hermit Thrush, Palm Warblers, many Yellow-rumps, Common Yellowthroat, and American Redstart, along with Field, White-throated, Chipping, Song, and Swamp Sparrow and Dark-eyed Junco. Later that afternoon at the pond here in Ashton, I had a Common Snipe at the edge of the pond. Today I had to go out to Sunshine in th AM and on the way to work, stopped off at the local ponds again. I had 3 Ring-necked Ducks at the Zion pond, and at the landfill pond I had American Wigeon, American Black Duck, Mallard, Green-winged Teal, and a pair of Northern Pintails, along with Killdeer and lots of Canada Geese. Well, I hope this gets to someone! See ya ....
