Norm--Tyler Bell has forwarded your query re MOS Southern Maryland chapter to some of us active in Southern Maryland Audubon. SMAS was formed 26 years ago by birders and has always been primarily a birding club, although we also have a strong conservation/environmental focus. (It keeps increasing as development pressures hit us in these counties) You may not be aware of our history and that is the reason an MOS chapter has never formed here. The "workers" are or have been involved in the SMAS organization/Board. Most of us also belong to MOS either at-large or I, for instance, belong to the Patuxent Club although I am not active in it. We all participate in the NAS Christmas Bird Counts as well as the MOS May counts, so there is much cross-over--again due to the strong birding component of our active members Anyway, Tyler is forwarding your query around and we will see what comes of it. You do a fine job of the MOS home page and I enjoy it, although have never "signed on". I guess. Keep up the good work! (Incidentally, glad to know '99 convention in Solomons. I have attended some and it will be good to have one close to home. In any event, you have enough SMAS/MOS members to help with local logistics) Carol Ghebelian (current SMAS VP/other stuff!) 3925 Stony Point Pl Indian Head, MD 20640 301/753-6754
