Rick-- Really appreciate your response. We don't get to see Peregrines as often as I'd like, especially in MD. In fact, until recently I didn't have a Peregrine in the State although I've listed many from other areas. Getting to Hart-Miller is sometimes difficult, but I'd like a chance to see those birds! Gene also sent a response off-list, which I am including here for everyone else since it also contains useful info. Again, thanks, Rick and Gene!! Message from Gene Scarpulla (Hey Gene, I finally got my pelagic, but had to go all the way to CA!) follows: Fran, The two adult Peregrine Falcons that I have been seeing since February are most easily seen at the Craig Hill Upper Range Light, which is the 110-foot "lighthouse" just south of Pleasure Island. (SIDENOTE: Craig Hill Channel is a shipping channel in the Chesapeake Bay.) The Range Light and falcons can be seen with a scope from either the end of Miller's Island Road near the old Ramona's Restaurant (closest view), or from Hart-Miller Island, or from North Point State Park (farthest view). The falcons are usually either perched on the Range Light, or flying around it, or are hunting on Hart-Miller Island. The falcons appear to be a pair. There is an obvious size difference between the two birds. There was no evidence of any nesting attempt in 1997 either on or in the Range Light. That's the falcon news.
