On Sunday October 26, The Howard County Bird Club's trip to Waggoner's Gap for a Hawk watch was cancelled. There were five dedicated souls who just couldn't go the day without birding, and since we'd set the day aside anyway, we decided to go to Conowingo Dam. There we found 4 immature Bald Eagles and 2 adult Bald Eagles. At least 20 Great Blue Herons and a couple immature Black-crowned Night Herons. Somewhere around here it started to pour. After a warm breakfast at the Conowingo Diner, we birded along the river. We found two Common Loons at the boat ramp, and ended up watching a Sharp-shinned Hawk hunt House Sparrows in Havre de Grace. A total of 28 species in all, and a lot nicer than going home and watching TV. Darius Ecker (dariuse@abs.net) Columbia, MD
