Ever mindful of the admonitions of Bob Schutsky (Baron Lancaster
and Lord of the River) I spent the day birding the Maryland portion of the
Susquehanna River north of Conowingo Dam. Approximately 1 mile north of the
boat launch on Mt. Zoar Road I found the PACIFIC LOON that Bob had
graciously let have safe passage out of his fiefdom after only a few days.
It was in the middle of the river just opposite the mouth of Broad Creek.
After making a few phone calls I returned. Just north of the boat
launch I found a juvenile PARASITIC JAEGER that stayed in the area from
3:15 - 4:00 p.m. and was sitting on the water when I left.
During the day I had a GREAT CORMORANT just south of the boat
launch. Both Common and Red-breasted Mergansers were seen flying down the
river, as were 3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and 2 BLACK SCOTERS. Other flybys
included 21 DUNLIN and 1 Greater Yellowlegs.
I plan to be back at the loon spot tomorrow early (see directions
in post from Les Eastman).
        All hail Sir Bob!

Rick
