Fran,

As a former pelagic operator out of Ocean City, here is part of the
problem. Currently, there are only two large headboats in Ocean City
that are licensed to go beyond 20 miles offshore (100-mile license).
They are the O.C. Princess and the Judith M. Neither one is in Ocean
City in the winter, they both go to Florida. Additionally the O.C.
Princess has priced itself out of the birding market, asking $4500 per
12-hour trip (May 1997).

My suggestion for pelagiphiles is to charter a willing "smaller boat"
captain with a 6-passenger, 100-mile license. Some will charter most of
the year. Expect to pay around $800 per 12-hour trip.
