Unlike you, I like cold weather, and have been afraid to try Arizona in the summer because I was afraid of the heat. I was extremely comfortable there in January! I wouldn't suggest shorts, though. Jeans and a long-sleeved shirt most of the time, with a light jacket or sweater handy; perhaps a fleece layer and gloves for the one or two chilly mornings. I don't think it went below the 40's in 1996, but I'm sure the potential is always there. We had only one cloudy day, and no precipitation at all. A sun hat would be a good idea, and I used sunscreen too. And I ran out and bought sunglasses the first day. Take sturdy clothes, of course, like khaki or denim, that won't be ruined by all the prickly vegetation. The pace is gentle; although I had trouble staying on my feet for several hours at a time in 1996, I still kept up pretty well. For a later Warbler workshop with IFO, I bought a tiny 3-legged camp stool and carried it on long walks! A favorite recollection of the 1996 year is that the great east coast blizzard hit the day _after_ we left NJ, and was pretty much melted by the time we returned! Great timing! I hope this is helpful, and let me know if there's anything else. I hope you will get together with Chuck Williamson if you're in Tucson; he showed us a womderful Mexican cafe and we enjoyed meeting Sharon, Simon, and Rose. Thanks for the encouragement about Lyme; the past two months have seen a tremendous improvement and I'm starting to almost feel "normal" again! best, Laurie llarson@pucc.princeton.edu -------------------------------- Fran Saunders Maryland Ornithological Society State Web Site Director saunderf@ari.net http://www2.ari.net/saunderf/mos/mos.html
