Paul O'Brien and myself (Mark Hoffman) covered the upper reaches of the
Susquehanna River (in Maryland) today (Tuesday, 11/25/97), looking for the
reported Pacific Loon. Paul walked from the "Mt. Zoar Rd. pull-off" to the
"Pilot Town Rd. dead end", and I covered the area from Pilot Town Rd. spot to
the PA line.

There were 3 Common Loons just S of the Pilot Town Rd. location, and another
4 or so across the River in the mouth of Broad Creek, but no Pacific. Other
waterfowl in the River included 150 Common Mergansers, 40 Oldsquaw, 2
Gadwalls, and 10 Common Goldeneyes.

The loons in the mouth of Broad Creek were difficult to study from the other
side of the River, and in the late pm I found a spot just S of Broad Creek on
the Harford Co. side allowing one to scan the bay in good light, but the
loons didn't look any more exciting.

Also 1 ad. Lesser Black-backed Gull at Conowingo.

Paul and I would appreciate hearing about any more Pacific Loon reports in
MD. Thanks!!
