All - Back in November, I forwarded Steve Kelling's original message (below) to another listserver (Tweeters - WA/OR/BC). Here it is for MD-Osprey. Steve's web site has some great info on the winter finch "invasion". I have tried to forward local messages about winter finches to him, but my information has been incomplete. So, would anyone who has seen a winter finch (or RB Nut) in Maryland (or other Mid-Atlantic state) this season, please provide him with details to include the date, species, number, and town name/state (his GIS program will look up the lat/lon). Check it out. Thx. I know that White-winged Crossbills were reported in Washington state and in BC in October, but since my report would be second hand, I thought it best to forward this message to Tweeters and ask that someone with more authoritative information respond to Steve Kelling. > >Thanks. > >Phil > > > >>Date: Mon, 17 Nov 1997 15:20:29 -0500 >>Reply-To: Steve Kelling <stk2@CORNELL.EDU> >>Sender: "National Birding Hotline Cooperative (Chat Line)" >> <BIRDCHAT@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU> >>From: Steve Kelling <stk2@CORNELL.EDU> >>Subject: Winter Finch Invasion Year >>To: BIRDCHAT@LISTSERV.ARIZONA.EDU >> >>Greetings, >> >>I apologize for the delay, but I have put together the results of the query >>I sent out at the end of last month regarding the occurrence of winter >>finches and Red-breasted Nuthatch in North America. >> >>The finches I am interested in include Pine Grosbeak, Purple Finch, >>Red Crossbill, White-winged Crossbill, Common Redpoll, Hoary Redpoll, Pine >>Siskin, and Evening Grosbeak. >> >>My query on BirdChat on 31 Oct. drew close to 75 responses.
