The Grinch

In the spirit of the season I'd like to assure Dex Hinckley that I would not refer to him as the Grinch, since I happen to know the Grinch personally. The story follows:
Several years ago I was gathering together information about birds banded or recovered in Cecil County. I met a very helpful fellow at Patuxent. Now, this individual always seemed to take great delight in appearing to be much surlier than he truly was. But underneath that calous exterior was a guy with a heart of gold, who put up with a lot of silly questions from me and answered them all.
We'd spoken on the phone about something one day near Christmas, and he's groused about something or other concerning the holiday. The following day when I called to get additional information a very nice lady answered the phone and I jokingly asked to speak to the Grinch. She put me on hold and a few minutes later a voice on the other end of the line said something on the order of "Bird Banding Lab, this is Danny....."
