This morning, Dave Webb and I went to the Broad Creek Boy Scout Camp.
Sorry, I don't have a map handy to give you map coordinates, but it is
in the north east part of the county. We first hiked through a hemlock
forest but saw nothing unusual. We then went to the headquarters area
where there was a good stand of pine trees. Almost immediately, we
found a flock of 7 White-winged Crossbills, 3 adult males and 4
females/immatures at the rear of Jacob's Lodge. We watched them for
about 15 minutes until they flew away. We searched about another hour
to try to relocate them or find other interesting birds. We found
Hermit Thrushes and Fox Sparrows, but no more crossbills.

Birders are welcome on weekends, just check in at the headquarters
building off Susquehanna Hall Road. Hopefully, they can tell you if the
birds have been seen again. During the week, call 410-452-8155 or
410-879-4922 to see if it is OK to come.
