Yesterday, Dec. 23, I had both crossbills along the entrance road to Pine Ridge Golf Course at Loch Raven. It was the sixth time I have checked the area, which has large stands of pine. It is a public course and anyone can go in. The first place to park is in the lot at the driving range, and you can walk back down the road from there. I had three or four flocks of Reds, totalling perhaps 14 birds, although if there was no overlap it could have been 22. There were four White-wingeds, three females and a male, about half-way between the lot and the entrance. The entrance to the golf course is on Dulaney Valley Road four or five miles north of the Baltimore Beltway. This pushes my county list to 311, which is probably good for second place, which is as high as I will ever get unless Hank Kaestner loses his mind and moves to California. Sigh.
