On Monday, January 6, at 2:45 I sighted three Sandhill Cranes on the mudflats along the 
Patuxent River (Prince George's County), from a vantage point in the Jug Bay Wetlands 
Sanctuary. They appear to be two juveniles and one adult. They appear to be wild and do 
not have bands. The trio was observed until 5:00 pm. We had excellent views as they fed 
by probing in the mud in the midst of a large gull roost. The cranes were seen again on 
Tuesday the 6th at 2:15 pm. The cranes were also seen by Jim Stasz, Dotty Mumford, Hal 
Weirenga, Lynne Davidson and Judy Burke. The cranes are probably best viewed in the late 
afternoon from the Observation Deck adjacent to the Wetlands Center at the Jug Bay 
Wetlands Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is open from 9-5 pm. and although we are not generally 
open to the public on Thurs and Fri., we are happy to accomodate birders who want to get
