I made brief trip to Conowingo Dam today. There must have been a lot of rain in PA the last few days because it appeared that all the generators were humming and at least 12 flood gates were open. As a result, the water was very high. There were few gulls around since there were no rocks available to sit on. The gulls that were there were mostly flying up and down the Cecil (east) side of the river, thus were hard to view. There were a couple of people trying and they had found an Iceland Gull but not the Common Gull. I went across the dam to see if there was anything on the lake. There was a flock of a couple hundred gulls on the lake above the dam. They were in the middle so hard to view from the Cecil side of the dam. I went on up to Conowingo Creek but only saw a couple of gulls flying up and down the lake. I don't think the high water bodes well for birding there this weekend but I am sure that some will try.
