Good day, folks! We're back! We just spent a week in Southeastern Arizona with Jon Dunn and Charlie Duncan (Institute for Field Ornithology) studying sparrows. I'll post a full report as soon as my head stops spinning, but I wanted especially to let Phil know that we saw the Nutting's Flycatcher at Lake Patagonia. What a marvelous bird! It was in close association with an Ash-throated Flycatcher and our group observed the two birds for over 45 minutes as they moved together through the trees, feeding and harassing each other. Once again, I highly recommend any and all of the courses offered by the Institute for Field Ornithology. We've taken the Seabirds course with Peter Vickery, the Shorebirds course with Wayne Petersen, the Hawk Migration course with Clay Sutton, and now the Sparrows course with Jon Dunn and all of them come HIGHLY recommended. If you want more info on the IFO, do a search on the web for "Institute for Field Ornithology" and check out their upcoming summer courses in Maine! More later as my energy levels return to normal and as I have a chance to absorb the 100 or so new messages posted in the past 5 days!
